In 1925, Bert retired from boxing and moved into racecourse protection, or demanding money from with menaces from bookmakers.
In 1936 he made headlines when he and an accomplice stabbed a man to death at Wandsworth Greyhound stadium, the murder charge was dropped but he served 12 months for manslaughter.
Marsh and fellow gangster Albert Dimes were often seen with Jim Wicks, who later would manage Henry Cooper, and his boxers.
