After a hard fight with Johnny Riggins, on September 21, 1962, Lavorante fell into a state of unconsciousness due to clots in the brain from the fight. After six months in an American hospital, his parents and four siblings decided to bring him to the country, where he was unconscious for more than a year at the Felibert Sanatorium in Rosario.
He died in the city of Mendoza on April 1, 1964. He was only 27 years old. He was buried in the cemetery of that city
