Sixheads shot to fame when he became the first Guyanese boxer to capture the WBC Welterweight title in 2001. He was given a hero’s welcome upon his return to Guyana and received lavish gifts from the government and the business community.

He also competed in the men's welterweight event at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Andrew “Sixheads” Lewis died on May 4th 2015 in a road accident in the village of Hope along the East Bank of Demerara. The former boxing champion was riding his bicycle when he was hit down by a car. He was badly injured and was rushed to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On 5 June 2007 his uncle Abdel Nur surrendered in Trinidad as a suspect in the John F. Kennedy International Airport terror plot. Lewis called his uncle a good Muslim and said he couldn't believe his uncle was involved in the plot.
